Hours after attending the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla yesterday, his excellency the President of the republic of Malawi continued with a series of bilateral meetings lined up during my stay in London.
His excellency the President of the republic of Malawi Dr Chakwera held talks with newly-elected Scottish First Minister, Humza Yousaf, to whom he expressed confidence of sustained good bilateral ties owing to his relevant experience with Malawi having visited us in 2014 while serving as Minister for External Affairs and International Development.
He extended to the scottish government and the people of Scotland an appeal for support towards our emergency international assistance to Cyclone Freddy victims which is facing a deficit of over US$110 million and the reconstruction plan estimated to cost US$700 million.
In the same vein he expressed gratitude to Scotland’s pledge of £400,000 towards the relief of cyclone victims and for the £236,000 support towards Malawi’s cholera outbreak response earlier this year.
We have agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries on issues of mutual interest like climate change, health and education.
